Blackjack game variants VI – details: Double Exposure Blackjack
Monday, September 29th, 2008Double Exposure Blackjack has gained favor among the gamblers as a popular game variant of the regular version. The most striking feature of the game is in respect to the dealing of the cards to the dealer. All the participating players in the game know both the initial cards received by the dealer before they start making any decisions regarding their action during the hand of play. It is evident that without any changes in the rules and regulations of this game variant in comparison to the regular game, it would be extremely beneficial to the players when they have prior information of how the dealer’s hand looks like before starting their own gameplay. However, there are some other major rule adaptations in this game.
Double Exposure Blackjack gives more advantage to the casino house than the players. So, anyone playing this game must reconcile himself for a payout of 1:1 rather than the standard 3:2 if he has a blackjack hand. Moreover, in case of a tie while the regular game allows for pushing, this game variant considers it as a lost hand for the player. Other significant changes in the gameplay stipulations include restricted form of doubling down and splitting pairs and a prohibition of the double after split rule.
The basic strategy for playing a game of Double Exposure Blackjack is obviously different from the regular version for two reasons – one, the players can view the dealer’s initial two cards before reaching a decision of their own gameplay and tactics and second, a tied game is equivalent to a loss unless both the player and the dealer have a blackjack hand. So a player with a pair of ten-valued cards invariably splits against the dealer’s hand value ranging from 13 to 16 and hits if he has a hard 20 and the dealer also has a 20.
